Every small town has a story, as plain and simple as it appears on the surface, hidden are always malicious under handed acts, and horrific sin. The W.F.Hofford Mill, in the Pocono Mountains holds interesting history, as well as unspeakable lore almost forgotten about until now.
During the years of the Great Depression, the mill was left to decay under the elements. Located between the rail lines and the Lehigh River, what was once a booming manufacturing facility, producing silk stockings became a desolate haven for rodents and homeless. The town’s people were all affected by the times of peril and poverty, not shocked by the fact that people had taken up residence at the abandoned mill. They were notably strange in their behavior, and withdrawn, but assumed to be down on their luck.
A young woman of barely adulthood was discovered missing by her family on a late September morning. The authorities were alerted and it was not until the second day that the search parties were sent out. Starting first with a rally in the town square, and then on foot the set out to search the banks of the Lehigh River and the canal, the railway, and the surrounding woods on the out skirts of town. There was no sign of the town’s fair maiden. Meetings were called and out rage was heard, the people of Weissport began to turn on each other demanding homes be searched. On the 7th day, exhausted and fearful, they stormed into the mill.
Inside an unmatchable nightmare, a hideous home created out of the twisted skeletal remains of the once prosperous factory. A sinister colony consisting of out of work miners, factory workers, and their kin had hidden here. Their chaos festering unknowingly by the neighboring people. The battle raged, and during the night quite again fell on the small town and the sun rose on the bricked skin of the building. She was found, dead.
Documents still existing today recorded what details were known. The young girl was kidnapped and forced in to marriage to fulfill the moral obligation of God’s will. She was then held captive as a wife to one of the men. It was noted that there was evidence that she fought for her survival for that week, and attempted escape. Her body was found in the cavity of a basement exhaust fan, wearing a tattered and filthy wedding dress.
It was 1:02 am. The workers on the graveyard shift at the Hewitt's Manufacturing Facility, in the Pocono Mountains had just been signaled by the bell to take their first break of the night. They shuffled one by one into the break room, removing their belongings from their lockers, pouring coffees, and filling the room with chatter like any other night. An awful cry broke through the peace of the room leaving a deafening silence. A pause in the breath of every human in the room was followed by another cry, and then a primal scream carrying a message from the depths of hell. The seconds passing left them with a feeling of eternity in waiting as the mind numbing sounds of flesh ripping, skulls being broke open, lambs being slaughtered, a mind detaching from it's soul, tore through the factory. At first not a person moved, yet soon each one would soon become a forever frozen image in time.
The workers grabbed their tools and attempted to escape as quickly as possible but the labyrinth of dark corridors and the maze of the factory entrapped them all. One by one the workers were taken, tortured and tormented, abused, and slaughtered. Their blood stained deep within the building's floors, their souls trapped with its walls. When all the workers had been finished off, there was only one man left, the one whose mind had separated from all things sacred and cherished, the one made of pure evil, the one they call the Foreman.
